Building a Farmhouse Table – We needed a new table since the foe table we had was coming apart. I did go and see if there is some solid wood ones out there but I thing the economical environment is so bad that almost everything is made from chip board or Mdf. All the wood for this project put me back about $100. I finished the table with a dark walnut teak oil finish and after it was dry I applied wax as well, this left me with a nice waterproof surface. All and all the table came out pretty well and the Kids love the big table to sit at.
The table is a little bit on the heavy side. There is multiple videos on you tube on farmhouse style table and Ana White also has a very detailed plan on how to build one of these tables. The one thing i didn’t like about most of these table is the fact that they all had cross brasses. I personally like the stand alone legs. I know cross bracing bring strength to the table but the table top is so heavy that ones that bad boy is in place it will take a significant force to move it.
lumber : The table and aprons are 4 x (16x6x2 feet) and 2 x(16x4x2)
I recycle some old oak leg post that was perfect for the table and give a table a uniqe sense of caracter with the difrent gains the is in coperated in the project.
